Name: Arlas E. Creech Dates: Birth date: September 7, 1925 Death date: August 4, 2012 Obituary: Arlas Earnest Creech, 86, of Waverly, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 4, 2012, where he lived at Bristol Village. He was born on September 7, 1925, to the late Rev Ogra Creech and Jennie Dunn Creech of West Portsmouth. He was the husband of the late Joyce Wells Creech and was preceded in death by one sister, Noreen Creech Flannery. He is survived by two children, Becky Toews (Chip) of Lancaster, PA and Marty Creech (Lisa) of Oxford, Ohio, and a stepson, Jim Jordan (Pam) of Denver, Colorado. He has three grandchildren, Bethany Toews Wong (Alan) of Philadelphia, PA, Josiah Toews of Nashville, TN, and Samuel Creech of Oxford, Ohio. He retired from the Goodyear Atomic Plant in 1989 where he worked as a general foreman. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a former commanding officer for Post 23 in the Portsmouth American Legion. A volunteer with InCare Hospice, he was recently presented with the President’s Call To Service Award in recognition of over 1,000 hours of volunteer service in 2011. A devout Christian, he attended New Covenant Church of Christ in Christian Union and Waverly Baptist Temple, both in Waverly, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 at BOYER FUNERAL HOME, Waverly, Ohio, with Pastor Joe Nelson officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Brick Union Cemetery, Lloyd, KY. Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home Wednesday, 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions be made to Waverly InCare Hospice.
